When should you see a dietitian?
A dietitian is a healthcare professional with a university degree in nutrition science and dietetics, working with knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and internal medicine. As an expert in nutritional therapy, the dietitian develops personalised dietary recommendations for healthy patients and those living with various conditions, and supports long-term lifestyle change.

Where needed, the dietitian works together with specialists in internal medicine, diabetology, obesity medicine, gynaecology, cardiology and other related fields. Dietary care is also important in prevention: evidence-based nutritional principles and healthy eating habits can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
Dietary advice is recommended, among other things:
- for type 1, type 2 or gestational diabetes, prediabetes and insulin resistance;
- for excess weight, obesity, unintended weight loss, or a goal of gaining weight or muscle mass;
- alongside high blood pressure, high cholesterol and other cardiovascular diseases;
- for reflux, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, food allergy, food intolerance or coeliac disease;
- for dietary support in thyroid disease, PCOS and certain autoimmune or inflammatory conditions;
- alongside liver, kidney and metabolic diseases or cancer treatment, in consultation with your doctor;
- when planning a pregnancy, during pregnancy or for questions about introducing solid foods to infants;
- for recovery after illness or surgery, reduced appetite or eating difficulties;
- even without any complaints, if you would like to make your diet more mindful and balanced.

How does a dietary consultation work?
During the session, we map your dietary history, lifestyle habits, complaints, previous illnesses and current health status. We review your test results, medicines, dietary supplements and previous experience with diets.
Read moreShow less
We discuss in detail the challenges related to your diet, as well as the practical factors in everyday life that may make it harder to follow the recommended diet.
We then work together on a personalised nutrition plan: which types of meals are recommended, which proportions to pay attention to, and how changes can be introduced gradually and sustainably into your everyday eating habits. We discuss recommended foods, ingredients to avoid where indicated, and practical solutions for everyday implementation.
We set realistic, achievable steps and agree on how follow-up will work. The dietary consultation takes approximately one hour, allowing enough time to discuss your history, eating habits and personalised recommendations in detail.

How can a dietitian help?
Body composition analysis with the InBody 770
As part of dietary advice or as a stand-alone test, body composition analysis can also be carried out with our state-of-the-art InBody 770 device. Body composition analysis gives a more detailed picture of the body’s make-up than body weight alone. The InBody 770 can assess body fat, skeletal muscle mass and total body water, among other parameters.
Knowing your body composition can be particularly useful during weight loss, lifestyle change, muscle building or regular sport, and for objectively tracking changes. The measurement takes only a few minutes, the result is available immediately and can be evaluated during the dietary consultation. For a more accurate measurement, if possible, do not eat and avoid drinking large amounts of fluids, alcohol or caffeinated drinks for 2 to 3 hours before the test.
Weight management and lifestyle change
Weight management may mean losing weight, maintaining the result achieved or, where indicated, gaining weight. Recommendations are based on your health, physical activity and individual goals. It is important that changes are made step by step and remain achievable in the long term. Besides body weight, we also pay attention to adequate nutrient intake and everyday eating habits. Where needed, we also use body composition results to assess your baseline more accurately and to track changes.
Endocrine problems and glucose metabolism disorders
In diabetes, prediabetes and insulin resistance, as well as underactive or overactive thyroid and PCOS, diet is an important part of treatment. The amount, quality and daily distribution of carbohydrates should be planned together with your treatment, activity and individual needs. As part of dietary advice, we help with practical questions about portion sizes, meal timing and food choices. Nutritional recommendations are coordinated with those of your diabetologist, endocrinologist or obesity specialist. Changing your diet does not replace prescribed medication or insulin. (Related reading: What is insulin resistance and how can it be treated?)
Digestive complaints and special diets
In digestive diseases, food allergy or intolerance, the diet must be adapted to the established diagnosis and your individual tolerance. Advice helps you find suitable substitutes for foods that cause symptoms and ensure adequate nutrient intake. Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease, and its dietary treatment differs from that of lactose intolerance, for example. Persistent complaints may also require medical investigation; if coeliac disease is suspected, starting a gluten-free diet before testing should be discussed with your doctor, as it can affect the results. (Related reading: What is IBS, and how can dietary advice help relieve its symptoms?)
Preparing for pregnancy and pregnancy
A dietitian can help you establish a balanced diet and ensure adequate nutrient intake as early as when you are planning a pregnancy. During pregnancy, dietary recommendations are adapted to changing needs, taking into account the mother’s health and the baby’s development. In gestational diabetes, the dietitian also supports you in planning and putting into practice a personalised diet coordinated with your diabetes treatment.
Frequently asked questions about dietary advice
How should I prepare for the consultation?
Please bring your previous medical records, recent and older laboratory results, and a list of your medicines and dietary supplements. A food diary kept for a few days can also be useful, recording not only food and drinks but also times, approximate quantities and any symptoms.
Is it only worth seeing a dietitian if I want to lose weight?
No. Dietary advice can also help with the dietary management of diseases, ensuring adequate nutrient intake, gaining weight and maintaining good health.
How long does the consultation take?
The dietary consultation takes approximately one hour. This allows time to discuss your history, eating habits and personalised recommendations in detail. Please ask about the length of the follow-up consultation when booking.
Will I get a personalised meal plan?
During the consultation, we develop a personalised nutrition plan and practical dietary recommendations. The scope of the personalised meal plans included in each package can be found in the dietetics price list.
How much does the consultation cost?
Current dietary advice prices (the first consultation, the follow-up consultation, dietary packages and related services) are available in the dietetics price list.
I live far away. Can I only attend the consultation in person?
No. Our dietitian also offers online consultations. Online dietary advice also allows a detailed discussion of your eating habits, test results and individual goals. Some of our dietary packages include body composition analysis; the InBody 770 body composition analysis can only be carried out in person. (Related reading: Our dietary packages are now also available online.)
Do I need a referral for dietary advice?
No, you can book a dietary advice appointment directly.
