When should you see a plastic surgeon?
Plastic surgery covers both aesthetic and reconstructive surgical procedures. The aim of the consultation is to determine whether a given concern can be corrected surgically, what result can realistically be expected, and which surgical solution best suits the patient’s anatomy.

A plastic surgery consultation may be advisable, among other things:
- for drooping upper or lower eyelids;
- for bags under the eyes or excess skin;
- for ear shape that is aesthetically or functionally bothersome;
- to correct an injured, stretched or torn earlobe;
- for a bothersome or poorly healed scar;
- for a scar remaining after a caesarean section that needs correction;
- to correct the position of the eyebrows;
- to correct the shape or position of the nipple;
- for skin or subcutaneous lesions requiring surgical removal;
- for corrections where aesthetic and functional considerations need to be weighed together.
What happens during a plastic surgery consultation?
Every plastic surgery procedure is preceded by a personal consultation. During the consultation, the plastic surgeon reviews in detail the patient’s expectations and the concerns they would like to change. This is followed by a physical examination, in which the doctor assesses the patient’s anatomy, the condition of the skin and tissues, and which surgical solution can be used safely.
During the consultation we discuss the aim of the procedure, the realistic expected result, the surgical technique, the type of anaesthesia, the expected length of the operation, possible risks and complications, the recovery period, and the follow-up examinations and aftercare.
Depending on the type of surgery and your general health, further tests may be needed. If you have known conditions or take regular medication, it is important to bring previous medical records and a list of your medications. Plastic surgery care does not end with the operation itself: during the recovery period, we monitor wound healing and the development of the result with follow-up examinations.
Plastic surgery procedures at Tagore Medical Center
Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)
Age-related changes in the eyelid skin and surrounding tissues can cause a tired appearance, bags under the eyes or drooping upper eyelids. At Tagore Medical Center, upper, lower and combined upper and lower blepharoplasty are available under local anaesthesia. The aim of the operation is to correct excess skin and, where needed, fatty tissue to achieve a more natural, rested appearance. Where the upper eyelid droops significantly, the procedure can also bring a functional improvement.
Otoplasty (ear correction) and earlobe repair
The shape, size or position of the ear may be bothersome, whether congenital or the result of later changes. Certain shape irregularities can be improved with plastic surgery. At Tagore Medical Center, one-sided and two-sided otoplasty and earlobe repair are available.
Earlobe injury, stretching or partial tearing can result from wearing earrings or a previous injury, for example. The plastic surgeon determines the appropriate surgical technique during the consultation.
Scar revision
After surgery, injury or wound-healing problems, a wider, indented, irregular or conspicuous scar may remain. Scar revision aims to improve the appearance of an existing scar. Where needed, the old scar is removed and the wound edges are joined so that, where possible, a thinner and less noticeable scar forms.
At Tagore Medical Center, plastic surgery correction of caesarean section scars is also available.
It is important to know that even plastic surgery cannot guarantee a completely invisible scar. Besides surgical technique, the final result is also influenced by individual healing tendencies and aftercare.
Eyebrow correction
Age-related changes in eyebrow position can affect the appearance of the eye area and accentuate the effect of drooping upper eyelids. A plastic surgery consultation can determine whether eyebrow correction alone, blepharoplasty, or a coordinated treatment of both areas will give the right result.
Nipple correction
Differences in nipple shape, size or position may be congenital or develop as a result of later changes. During the plastic surgery consultation, we determine which corrective procedure may be suitable based on your anatomy and the result you want to achieve.
Plastic surgical removal of skin and subcutaneous lesions
When removing certain skin lesions, in addition to oncological safety, wound closure and the aesthetic result of the eventual scar are also important. At the Tagore Medical Center plastic surgery clinic, surgical removal of moles and other skin and subcutaneous lesions is available under local anaesthesia. Where needed, the removed tissue is sent for histological examination. If there is a larger skin defect, a special wound-closure technique, a skin graft or flap reconstruction may be necessary.
Flap reconstruction
After removal of a larger skin lesion or loss of tissue, the wound edges sometimes cannot simply be brought together properly. In flap reconstruction, surrounding skin and soft tissue with a good blood supply are used to cover the defect. The plastic surgeon always plans the technique according to the location and size of the lesion and the characteristics of the surrounding tissue.

What happens after plastic surgery?
After the operation, the patient receives detailed information on wound care, any dressing changes, restrictions on physical activity and the dates of follow-up examinations. The length of recovery and the time needed to return to everyday activities depend greatly on the type of procedure. Swelling, tightness, bruising or tenderness may initially occur in the treated area. These are usually part of the healing process, but patients are always told which symptoms require an unscheduled medical check. For many operations, the final aesthetic result cannot be judged immediately. It can take weeks or months for swelling to subside, tissues to settle and scars to mature.
Frequently asked questions about plastic surgery
Is every plastic surgery operation preceded by a consultation?
Yes. Every plastic surgery operation is preceded by a personal specialist consultation. This includes an assessment, a discussion of the desired result and realistic options, and drawing up the surgical plan.
Are the operations performed under local anaesthesia?
Plastic surgery procedures at Tagore Medical Center are performed under local anaesthesia. The exact type of anaesthesia is determined by the plastic surgeon based on the type of surgery and the patient’s condition.
When can I return to work?
This depends on the type of operation. After a minor outpatient procedure, time off may be short, whereas after eyelid or ear surgery, for example, you should allow for a longer recovery. You will receive personalised information about the expected recovery time during the consultation.
Will there be a scar after the operation?
Any surgical procedure that involves cutting through the skin leaves a scar. An important aim of plastic surgery techniques is to place incisions in natural skin creases or less noticeable areas where possible, and to promote favourable scar formation through careful wound closure. However, the final appearance of the scar is also influenced by individual healing.
How long does it take for the final result to develop?
Recovery time varies by type of operation. Initial swelling usually subsides sooner, while tissues and scars may take several months to reach their final state.
How much does a plastic surgery procedure cost?
Plastic surgery prices can be found in our current plastic surgery price list. The exact fee may depend on the type and complexity of the procedure, the size of the area involved and, in some cases, any required histological examination. For this reason, some operations are listed with a ‘from’ price, and the final cost can be confirmed at the preliminary plastic surgery consultation.
Do I need any tests before the operation?
The necessary preliminary tests depend on the type of procedure and the patient’s age, health and known conditions. During the consultation, the plastic surgeon will tell you which laboratory or other tests are needed for the operation to be performed safely.
Can I continue taking my medication?
Tell the plastic surgeon about all medication you take regularly. It is particularly important to mention blood-thinning medication and other long-term treatments. Do not stop any medication on your own; if a change is needed, agree on it with your doctor.
